Hugh Freeze Contract

Liberty's Hugh Freeze Extends Contract, Secures Top Pay in Group of Five

New Eight-Year Deal Worth $40 Million

Liberty University has awarded head football coach Hugh Freeze a lucrative eight-year contract extension, solidifying his position as one of the highest-paid coaches in the Group of Five. The fully guaranteed contract, which runs through the 2030 season, will pay Freeze an average of more than $5 million per year.

The announcement of Freeze's contract extension underscores Liberty's commitment to its football program and its confidence in Freeze's leadership. Since taking the helm in 2019, Freeze has guided the Flames to a 25-10 record and has led the team to the best start in program history during the 2022 season.

"We are grateful for Coach Freeze's outstanding leadership of our football program and the positive impact he has had on our student-athletes," said Liberty's Director of Athletics Ian McCaw. "This contract extension reflects the university's commitment to supporting Coach Freeze and the football program and our belief that he will continue to lead the Flames to success."

Freeze's new deal makes him the highest-paid coach in the Group of Five, exceeding the salaries of other successful Group of Five coaches such as Jeff Brohm (Purdue), Matt Wells (Texas Tech), and Willie Fritz (Tulane). The contract also places Freeze among the highest-paid coaches in the FBS, regardless of conference affiliation.

The contract extension is a testament to Freeze's exceptional coaching abilities and his commitment to the Liberty football program. With Freeze at the helm, the Flames are poised to continue their success and achieve even greater heights in the years to come.
